Experience the traditional side of Sardinia this summer with the Cavalcata Sarda 2024!
Full of traditions and colourful parades, the Cavalcata Sarda is an annual festival held in Sardinia, Italy. It is celebrated in usually on the second last Sunday in May, but this year it would take place on the 12th of May in the city of Sassari.
What to expect in Cavalcata Sarda?
The festival typically lasts for several days including a series of events, including colourful parades, horseback riding events, traditional costumes, music, and dancing.
During the Cavalcata Sarda, more than 66 folk groups, 39 associations, and over 200 musicians and dancers participate, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the event! Almost 3,000 participants are dressed in traditional Sardinian attire, including colourful costumes and elaborate headdresses. The parade often features horse-drawn carriages, folk groups, and traditional Sardinian music played by local bands.
The festival also includes horse races, competitions, and demonstrations of traditional Sardinian horsemanship skills. Visitors can enjoy local food and wine, as well as participate in various cultural activities and performances.

Additional Events:
- On the Saturday prior to the Cavalcata,
"Sassari in celebration for the Cavalcata Sarda" presents an exciting
concert featuring Sardinian artists.
- On Sunday, concurrent with the parade, the
event "Sounds, dances, and voices of Sardinia" showcases performances
by select participating groups.
- Later in the afternoon, activities resume at the racecourse.
Traditional Market:
The streets of Sassari transform into a vibrant market adorned with stands and stalls. Corso Cossiga, via Enrico Costa, via Asproni, viale Mancini, corso Berlinguer, via Manno, via Mazzini, and piazza d'Armi host up to 230 exhibitors hailing from all corners of Sardinia.

- 9:00 am: Commencement of the parade
featuring traditional Sardinian costumes, beginning at Corso Cossiga.
- Evening: Enjoy a review of traditional songs and dances.
